Bring your little one in their pram or buggy for a brisk 45 minute led walk around Hornchurch Country Park. Enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings while meeting new friends. No need to book. Meet outside Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre.

Birds, Birdsong and Breakfast – Saturday 14th May 7 am – 9.30am

Join local guide Dave McGough for a fantastic introduction to the birds and their song found in the Ingrebourne Valley. Enjoy an informative walk listening, observing and identifying a variety of birds. Return to the visitor centre for breakfast. Breakfast will include bacon/ veggie sausage roll, pastries and a hot drink/fruit juice. Places limited to 15. £12 per person.

‘Heartstart’ Community First Aid Course – Sunday 15th May – 10am – 12.30 pm

Run in association with the British Heart Foundation and London Ambulance Service. This course will cover invaluable basic life saving first aid skills including recovery position, CPR, choking, heart attack, use of a defibrillator, and major bleeding. Places are limited to 12 adults. Delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.

£5 donation (to EWT) per person.

 Art – Drawing – Part 3 – 10 weeks

Delivered at the Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre the course is for learners developing their skills in drawing. The course will cover the variety of drawing styles, range of mediums and develop further the skills needed to create personal masterpieces. The course is ideal for beginners and learners who have some basic knowledge of drawing and wish to improve those skills. Metropolitan Police Safer Transport Team – Bike Marking and Travel Advice. Friday 27th May – 10 am – 1pm

Enjoy a selection of beautiful images captured by local photographer Andy Webb. Prints will be available to buy. Free entry just call in.

Self-Guided Trail – Available throughout the holidays 10 am – 4pm –Pick up a map, clipboard and pencil, complete the questions along a route around the park. Bring your completed sheet back to the centre and pick up a Wildlife Watch Magazine and poster as your prize. £2 per child.

Bees and Flowers – Tuesday 31st May – 2pm – 4pm

Join us for trails, games and crafts on the theme of these fascinating insects and the flowers they feed on. Make something to take home and learn how you can help bees in the wild.

Hobby Horse Making – Thursday 2nd June – 2pm – 4pm

Using a hazel tree pole and a stuffed sock and a range of craft materials create your very own hobby horse to take for a ride and enjoy back at home. All materials provided. Suitable for adults and children alike. £5 per horse.

Den Building and Bushcraft – Friday 3rd June – 2pm – 4pm – Enjoy an afternoon of survival skills in the woods. Learn how to tie some useful knots, create a den, whittle sticks and toast marshmallows on the campfire. £6 per child. Age Range 6 – 11 years. 

Story Telling Activity Trial – Sunday 5th June – 10 am – 12 noon – As part of National Share-A-Story Month this years theme is ‘A Place for Stories’.  Join us for 3 classic stories (Three Little Pigs, Hansel and Gretel and Billy Goat Gruff) which will be told in unusual (but safe) places around the park; on a bridge over the river, at a Pill Box and in the Woods. Enjoy activities on the way as we travel between the unusual story spots.  Places limited to 15. £6 donation per child. Age Guide 3 – 8 years.

Photography Workshop: Level 3 – Close-up and Macro Nature Photography. Sunday 12th June 10 am – 4pm

Learn how to use your camera to make fantastic pictures from the tiniest details – on this one-day workshop with Daniel Bridge we look at techniques, lenses, flash, and how to find subjects.   A slideshow and discussion in the morning, followed by practical photography in the afternoon.  Maximum of 10 delegates per course. £50 donation per person.

An Introduction to the Study of Bumblebees Adrian Knowles – Sunday 17th July 10 am – 4 pm. £30 per person

Bumblebees are an appealing, small group of insects that often attract those not otherwise drawn to the study of insects. Species diversity can be used as an indicator of habitat quality and several species are of conservation concern nationally. The course will discuss the range of bumblebees found in Essex and the UK, the books available to aid identification and other learning, methods of observation and preliminary skills in putting a name to specimens. The ecological requirements of the Essex species will also be discussed. Part of the day will be spent in the Hornchurch Country Park, looking for bumblebees to name and discuss their behaviour and ecology. In case of bad weather, this will be backed-up with pinned specimens provided by the tutor. SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAYS – A RANGE OF EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES PLANNED FULL DETAILS COMING SOON

Merlins Bird Watching Club for Young People – Starts Thursday 28th July 10 am – 12 noon. Named after the Merlin engines that once powered RAF Hornchurch’s Spitfires, armed with binoculars, bird guide and notepad (all provided) join Brenda our birdwatching guide to spot, observe and identify the bird life of Hornchurch Country Park. Suitable for 8 year olds + (unaccompanied). Opportunity to learn and develop new skills session by session. Taking place every Thursday morning during the school summer holidays and the first Saturday of the month from October. £6 donation per child sibling £4.

Childrens Wildlife Birthday Parties are available here at Hornchurch Country Park delivered by Essex Wildlife Trust. Parties are suitable for 3 – 10 years and include 90 minutes of wildlife themed activities out in the park and use of the Education Room afterwards for 45 minutes. Minimum charge £100 for 10 or fewer children and £7 thereafter per additional child. Maximum number of children 30. Party bags and food from the café available on request.

 Room Hire – The Kevin Davis Education and Community Room is available to hire at a charge of £25 + VAT per hour. Catering services are available from the centres café upon request.

 Cancellation of Events:

Advance booking and payment is required for the majority of our events. In the event you wish to cancel a booking:

All fully booked events will run a waiting list. Where someone on the waiting list is able to fill the cancelled place a full refund will be given. All cancellations and transfers must occur 24 hours before the session. Where possible customers can transfer their booking to a different session/activity within one month of original session date. No refund or transfer can take place if this prevents the session from running. Only one transfer can be made from a set of block bookings and this must be within one month of the original session date.
