About EPAGRA

Purpose

We work together to represent the interests of the Emerson Park & Ardleigh Green community.

As a member of EPAGRA you are one of some 3,000 member households in our area. Your Association is run by a Committee under the guidance of an elected chairman. Essentially the Association is a pressure group that has no alliance with any party political or religious group. We seek justice, fair play and a voice to be heard for our members on matters relating to planning issues, local council policy, public transport, highway maintenance and other matters that affect local residents.

History

A brief history… Our Residents’ Association was formed in 1959 by Reg Allin and Peter Whittow-Williams following concerns that London Transport were to curtail a local bus service that connected Wingletye Lane and Emerson Park to Hornchurch. The initial meeting of the two founders left Mr Whittow-Williams with somewhat of a sinking feeling when he stepped into Reg Allin’s hallway he literally descended through a rotten floorboard.

Initially called the Nelmes Estate Residents’ Association it grew to become the Emerson Park Residents’ Association but in 1971 following local ward boundary changes the Association was extended to cover the Ardleigh Green area and so the name was changed to the one we proudly carry to this day. To many of our members we are just known as EPAGRA.
